Hyderabad: Former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, who is currently in jail in connection with a criminal case booked against him for allegedly organising the attack on collector and other government officials at Lagcharla in Vikarabad district, filed a fresh petition before the Telangana High Court, challenging his judicial custody in the said case.

Last week, he filed a petition before the Telagnana High Court urging to quash the remand report against him in the said case and requested to set him free.

However, the High Court Registry in the scrutiny stage had objected to the said petition. Later, Narender Reddy on Monday filed a petition complaining that the trial court did not follow the guidelines of Supreme Court in D.K. Basu case, in allowing the judicial custody of a person. Further, he mentioned in the petition that his name was arrayed as first accused on the confessional statements of others, who were involved in the alleged attack. Without any substantial evidence, the police registered the case against him and arrested and the trial court accepted the remand without following the procedure, Narender Reddy said in the petition.
