Locals Seek HYDRAA’s Help to Revive Lakes
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner A.V. Ranganath and other officials visited a few lakes after receiving complaints from locals about encroachments and pollution.
The places that they visited include Nizam Talab Lake (Nizampet), Eedula Kunta (Khanamet), Medikunta (Madhapur), Neknampur Cheruvu and three other lakes such as Tellapur-Mella Cheruvu, Vanam Cheruvu, and Chelli Kunta.
During their visit, locals submitted petitions to the HYDRAA commissioner seeking lake protection and restoration to restore the ponds. Ranganath assured the locals that he would ensure that the water bodies were not encroached.
The locals also complained about lakes being polluted due to sewage from gated communities.
The officials were instructed to collect complete details of the lakes and stop further encroachment. “A complete review will be done and we will ensure that the lakes are not encroached,” said an official from HYDRAA.
