Hyderabad: A 61-year-old man from Bihar was on Thursday given the death penalty and slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh by the Sangareddy fast-track court, which found him guilty of the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl, 11 months back. Following the verdict, Gaffer Khan, who resided in Sangareddy town’s BDL Bhanur police limits, will now be shifted to Hyderabad jail from Sangareddy jail, where he is currently lodged.

Gaffer Khan, a construction worker, befriended another family from Bihar staying in the same place. Last October, he offered soft drinks to a six-year-old girl when her parents were out on work and raped her. When she started to resist, he killed the girl.

BDL Bhanur police registered cases under Pocso against Khan and arrested him.

Sangareddy superintendent of police Ch. Roopesh closely monitored the case and wrote to the Telangana High Court to constitute a fast-track court to conduct trial for a speedy verdict in the case.

"As the victims are also from Bihar, they left for their native place after the incident. We collected evidence and brought the victim's family for their statements before the court. As they were poor, the police department arranged for their transportation,” the SP said.

Roopesh stated that it was the first death penalty verdict in Sangareddy district in 27 years.
