Hyderabad: Activists of the banned Maoist party on Wednesday attacked a police base camp with Under-Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGLsd) in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. No one was injured in the mishap. They attacked the camp at Pusuguppa of Cherla mandal from a distance of 500 metres.

District superintendent of police B. Rohit Raju confirmed the attack, adding that as it was night-time the incident would be thoroughly probed on Thursday morning.

“Around 5.30 pm on Wednesday, the banned Maoists hid somewhere just 500 meters away from the police base camp and attacked the police camp base by releasing UBGLs. The police team alerted immediately and retaliated. After a couple of minutes of exchange of fire, the Maoists fled from the place,” Rohit Raju said.

It was also suspected that the attack was in retaliation for the alleged encounter in the same district in which at least six persons including women were gunned down. Police officials confirmed that they had intel information and that is why they were able to quell the attack.

The district police have been alerted and security has been intensified at specific places. Border areas of the district have also been covered by forces to prevent untoward incidents.
