HYDERABAD: The municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department has accorded administrative sanction for Rs 3,849.1 crore for the construction of 39 sewage treatment plants (STPs) in the area between the GHMC borders and the ORR jurisdiction along the Musi river.

"The capacity of these 39 STPs is 965 million litres a day, and they are a part of the state government’s comprehensive sewerage master plan (CSMP) to stop polluted water from reaching the Musi, giving it a new lease of life," said an official from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), which will be executing the work.
These STPs are a part of the Union urban affairs ministry’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme.
One STP will be built under public private partnership (PPP) with the Centre and the state government providing 30 per cent funding each.
The other 38 will be built in the hybrid annuity model (HAM), for which the Centre would provide 25 per cent funding and the state government, 35 per cent.
The remaining funding will be done under the HAM and PPP models. Urban local bodies (ULBs) will contribute to the cost of operations and maintenance.
