Hyderabad: The Congress is set to mark the first anniversary of its government in Telangana with a public meeting on the outskirts of Hyderabad on December 3.

The bigwigs of All India Congress Committee (AICC), including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are expected to attend the meeting, party sources said.

The TPCC has chosen Tukkuguda as the venue, a site that has a symbolic significance for the party. It was here that Sonia Gandhi unveiled the Six Guarantees on September 17, 2023, which are widely credited with propelling Congress to victory in the Assembly elections.

Although the Congress government officially took office on December 7, 2023, the party opted for December 3 for the rally, citing the date’s historical and political significance.

The December 3 rally is expected to set the stage for future political mobilisation, as the party eyes continued dominance in the state ahead of elections to the local bodies tentatively in January and teacher, graduate MLC elections a month after that.

Meanwhile, the state government has launched the "Praja Palana Vijayotsavam" (People's Governance Victory Celebrations), a 26-day series of events from November 14 to December 9, to highlight the government’s achievements.

As part of official celebrations on behalf of the government, Hyderabad will witness three days of celebrations at iconic locations: Tank bund (December 7), the Secretariat (December 8) and Necklace road (December 9).

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will address public meetings in Warangal, Karimnagar and Mahabubnagar districts.

A major initiative, "Indira Mahila Shakti" buildings, will have their foundation stones laid in 22 districts on November 19 in Warangal, demonstrating the Congress government’s focus on women empowerment.

Assembly constituency-level events will celebrate Telangana’s heritage and showcase the government's progress.

A highlight will be unveiling of the "Telangana Talli" statue at the Secretariat on December 9, a gesture honouring the state’s cultural identity and the pivotal role of women in its development.

With these initiatives, the Congress aims to cement its connection with the people and showcase its first year in office as the turning point in Telangana governance.
