Minisiter Ponguleti urges swift drafting of new revenue law
Hyderabad: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has directed officials to expedite the drafting of the new revenue legislation, the Record of Rights (RoR) Act, following the completion of a month-long public feedback exercise on Saturday. He underscored the importance of incorporating the feedback from stakeholders, including intellectuals, experts, retired revenue employees, public representatives, farmers and commoners into the Act, with particular attention given to the needs of farmers.
Criticising the previous BRS government, Srinivas Reddy said, "The expectation that land problems would be resolved after the formation of Telangana has not been fulfilled due to the hasty decisions of the previous BRS government, which have led to new complications." He pointed out that the flawed Revenue Act of 2020 and the Dharani portal had exacerbated the land issues, affecting approximately 30 lakh farmers.
To avoid repeating past mistakes, the Congress government had sought opinions from a broad spectrum of society, Srinivas Reddy said. The draft law was discussed in the Legislative Assembly earlier this month and later made available for public scrutiny at the office of the Chief Commissioner for Land Affairs (CCLA) in Hyderabad and on the website.
Workshops were also held under the guidance of district collectors, who were instructed to compile and submit the feedback received at the district level.
Srinivas Reddy assured that the new law would be transparent and easily understandable. He also announced that the controversial Dharani portal, which was kept confidential by the previous BRS government, would be made accessible to everyone.
