Hyderabad: A society in Nallagandla has dedicated Independence Day to science, with students and parents engaging in physics experiments, robo-car fights, and drone-making sessions.

Nearly 15 months ago, a few professors from IIT Hyderabad and several parents at Aparna Cyberzon in Nallagandla started having science sessions every Sunday for one-and-a-half hours in their society park, which led to the formation of the 'Parents' Science Club'. Over the past year, around 30 parent-child duos attended his sessions, which sparked a shared interest, leading them to collaborate on various projects.

On Thursday, as society residents gathered for Independence Day, many were surprised to see the excitement around the science projects. IIT professors and students showcased advanced experiments. "It is encouraging to see parents working hard for their kids to create a conducive environment for learning," said Anurag Tripathi, one of the professors.

Families who were competing against each other presented ideas like 'Obstacle-avoiding stick for the blind' by Shraddha, Vivaan and their parents. Anish, a Class 6 student, and his father built a temperature-sensing model. An experiment showing electroplating of copper on iron using copper sulphate solution by Vihaan and his parents Archana Jain and Anil Agarwal.

Samarth, Shankar, Vivaan and parents created a line-following robot. There were also path-finder races and robot wars, which attracted a large crowd with parents cheering and hooting. The excitement of the gatherers was unbeatable during these races.

IIT Hyderabad teams lead by professors Harish Dixit and Jyoti Mohanty made several demonstrations including a cloud chamber to detect cosmic charged particles, and superconducting levitation. There was also a drone-making session by IIT Hyderabad students.
