NEET fiasco: Congress, Left affiliated students unions try to lay siege to Kishan Reddy’s house
Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at the residence of Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy here on Saturday morning when the members of various students’ unions affiliated to Left parties and Congress tried to lay siege to his house demanding cancellation of NEET.
The students actually came to Reddy’s house to seek an appointment to meet him and submit a memorandum requesting cancellation of NEET. As they could not get an appointment, the irate students attempted to lay siege to Reddy's house.
Raising slogans denouncing the attitude of the Central government over the conduct of NEET exam, the students demanded Reddy to use his good offices to cancel the exam and conduct it once again in the larger interest of innocent students.
The Centre should tender an apology to as many as 24 lakh students who appeared for the exam. Of the 24 lakh students, 60,000 students from two Telugu States appeared for the exam. Students vowed to continue their agitation till the Centre cancels the exam and conducts it once again. All India Students' Federation (AISF) State Secretary Putta Laxman fractured his left leg after over 10 members along with the police, who were preventing students from staging the demonstration, fell on him suddenly.
Students affiliated to AISF, Students Federation of India (SFI), National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU), Vidhyarthi Jana Samithi (VJS), All India Youth Federation (AIYF), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC), Youth Justice Society (YJS) and Progressive Youth League (PYL), among others took part in the protest in the large numbers.
Interacting with media persons, Congress MLC Balmoori Venkat, who was also present at the house of Reddy on behalf of NSUI, urged the Minister to persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cancel the exam.
