Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka Bhatti highlighted Jawaharlal Nehru’s transformative contributions to India's growth on the global stage, on the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, and defended the Congress government’s decision to conduct a caste census in Telangana, asserting that it was aimed at expanding welfare schemes for the underprivileged, not cutting them.

Bhatti hailed Nehru’s visionary leadership and credited him with laying the foundation for India’s advancements in science and technology. He said that Nehru’s policies in public sector education, agriculture, and industry were instrumental in positioning India as a major player on the global stage. “If India is sending satellites to the Moon and Mars today, it is because of the far-sighted decisions Nehru made,” he remarked.

Bhatti criticised BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, who had accused the Congress government of failing in various sectors. Bhatti asked: “Is doing good to people considered a government failure? The Congress government is creating job opportunities, setting up integrated schools, and prioritising public welfare.” He accused BRS of attempting to destabilise the Congress government.

On the caste census, Bhatti clarified that it was intended to identify the needs of marginalised communities and increase welfare schemes. He stressed that the caste census was a historic decision, designed to fulfill Congress’s promise to the people. “Telangana’s commitment to this census will set a model for the entire nation,” he asserted.
