Hyderabad:Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday clarified that there was no proposal for cancelling existing districts and no new district will be formed in the state. He informed that 11 new revenue divisions are being proposed in the state.

He made the remarks while clarifying proposals for new revenue divisions in the state in the Assembly. Of the 11 proposed, a preliminary notification has been issued for four, one proposal has been received and is under examination and proposals have been sought from the district collectors regarding six.

Congress MLA Beerla Ilaiah, while seeking revenue division for Alair, stated that they were not formed as per needs. This, he informed, has led to land related problems as the division has been done haphazardly.Answering the query, the revenue minister said, “The proposal regarding Alair is being considered positively. We are getting a feasibility report on Makthal.”

Intervening in the discussion, roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy backed the demand for revenue division status for Cheriyal raised by BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy.

“Cheriyal was once a constituency. The people there have to go to different places to meet the Collector, SP and other officials. I request the demand be considered,” he said.

After hearing requests for mandal and revenue division status from different MLAs, Ponguleti said, “The proposal for Cheriyal is under active consideration. Many revenue divisions and mandals do not have cadre strength and offices. The division was not done as per feasibility. Many MLAs are facing difficulty as they have to deal with three or more collectors and SPs to get things done or address people’s problems. The issue will be discussed in the Cabinet.”
