Nursing Officer Praised for Assisting Woman in Labour on Bus

HYDERABAD: Wanaparthy nursing officer Alivelu Mangamma was lauded by health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha on Thursday, for assisting a pregnant woman in labour during an RTC bus journey. He presented a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to Mangamma, while the department of family welfare awarded her Rs 1,000 in cash along with a certificate of appreciation. Sandhya, a pregnant woman from Kondapalli in Jogulamba Gadwal district, was travelling with her husband Ramanuja on an RTC bus. As the bus neared Nachahalli in Wanaparthy, Sandhya began experiencing severe labour pain. Bus conductor Bharati called for medical assistance. Mangamma who was on the bus responded immediately and assisted Sandhya through a normal delivery.
