Hyderabad:All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said the party opposes the One Nation, One Election (ONOE) plan as it was against federalism and compromises democracy which are part of the basic structure of the Constitution. He said multiple elections were not a problem.

Taking to ‘X’, he said, “Multiple elections are not the issue for anyone except for Modi and Shah. Just because they have a compulsive need to campaign in even municipal and local body elections does not mean that we need simultaneous polls. Frequent and periodic elections improve democratic accountability.”

In another post on X, he cited what he called a glaring example of the Archaeological Survey of India’s neglect and disinterest in maintaining historical monuments. He made the comments reacting to a media report about damage to Akbar's tomb owing to incessant rains in Agra. The comments come in the backdrop of concerns on damage to Taj Mahal in the rain.

He wondered what happened to the `551 crore allocated for the conservation of ancient monuments in the 2023-24 Union Budget and asked, “Why have they not utilised these funds to protect monuments.”
