BJP's Madhavi Latha Loses to Owaisi in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi retained the Hyderabad Lok Sabha Seat with a margin of over 3.3 lakh votes against his nearest rival, BJP's Madhavi Latha, who stood second in the constituency which has been an AIMIM bastion.
Hyderabad saw a showdown between AIMIM's Owaisi and BJP's Madhavi Latha but the sitting MP was successful in retaining the seat for fifth time.
After round 1 of counting of votes, BJP candidate Madhavi Latha recorded lead of 1,264 votes but the AIMIM chief took a commanding lead throughout all the remaining rounds.
Madhavi Latha had the upper hand in postal ballots where she secured 3,413 votes whereas Owaisi secured 2,703 votes. She was also able to secure majority of votes in Goshamahal segment of Hyderabad consituency,
The BJP candidate triggered outrage on the polling day after she asked burqa-clad women to lift their veil and show their faces for ID check.
Asaduddin Owaisi has a better majority comparatuvely with 2019 Lok Sabha Elections where he secured a majority of 2,82,187 votes. There is an increase in almost 50,000 votes in this election.
Lok Sabha elections were held on May 13 and Hyderabad constituency recorded 48.48% voter turnout.
