Passengers can Access Wi-Fi in Planes
Hyderabad:Passengers can use Internet services through Wi-Fi only after the aircraft reaches an altitude of 3,000 metres, or 33,000 feet, guidelines issued by the government stated.
The rules, part of the Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024, aim to prevent distractions that could affect passenger safety and aircraft safety. The use of electronic devices is not permitted during critical flight phases like takeoff, initial climb and landing.
Previously, passengers were allowed to use mobiles after the aircraft reached 3,000 metres.
Currently, among Indian carriers, Vistara is offering Wi-Fi services on select international flights. Air India provides wireless in-flight entertainment services on selective flights.
