Hyderabad: Former MP and BC leader R. Krishnaiah alleged that the government was indifferent in the matter of clearing fee reimbursement dues of degree colleges as students of lower castes study in such institutions. He sought a White Paper on the payments being made to contractors in the last seven months, to contrast it with the fee reimbursements.

In a release, Krishnaiah said, “1,800 degree and PG colleges have been closed and students had to return home as they were shut. This is the second time such a bandh is happening and is unprecedented in the past 76 years. The managements which had shut down colleges agreed to run them after our request. But as the government did not pay their dues the situation is back to square one now.”

The management of private degree and junior colleges are seeking payment of Rs 4,000 crores in fee dues. They have been flagging their inability to run the establishments having failed to pay their staff and pending rental dues of college buildings.
