Police call for peace in Jainoor
The situation is under control in Jainoor following the clashes between two groups, with a heavy police force deployed in and around it. Police did not allow anybody towards Jainoor and restricted movement at Utnoor X road
Adilabad: Additional DGP (law and order) Mahesh Bhagwat on Thursday appealed to both communities to maintain restraint and restore peace in the Jainoor area. He warned of stern action against those who spread rumours on social media about the incident.
The situation was under control in Jainoor following clashes between two groups, with a large police force deployed in and around the town. Police set up checkposts at the Utnoor crossroads to restrict entry.
Bhagwat visited Jainoor and spoke with elders of both communities at Jainoor and Utnoor. He said the attack on an woman was unfortunate and asked members from both communities to exercise restraint. He said that Kagaznagar DSP Karunakar was appointed as special officer to assess the property loss and the government would take steps to provide compensation based on the report.
Komaram Bheem Asifabad collector Venkatesh Dhotre said officials had spoken to members of both communities when a bandh was called against the rape on Wednesday. They wanted to ensure a peaceful bandh but clashes erupted suddenly and led to attacks on the properties of both the communities.
The collector informed that the accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody and government imposed had imposed prohibitory orders and stopped internet services. The victim was being treated in Hyderabad and the government had given the family Rs 1 lakh as compensation.
