Hyderabad: In response to a Dial 100 call, Hyderabad Police rescued a 17-year-old girl from a group of drunken cab drivers who attempted to assault her. The suspects were arrested following a dramatic chase in the Annanagar area of Borabanda.

The victim, accompanied by her alleged boyfriend, had boarded an autorickshaw in Madhapur to return home. Four drunken cab drivers, riding on two bikes, began chasing the autorickshaw. At Annanagar, they intercepted the vehicle, forcibly entered it, and assaulted the victim, police said.

"A migrant worker from Bihar alerted our night patrol team in the early hours of Tuesday," said P. Venkatramana, ACP, SR Nagar to Deccan Chronicle. "The caller reported that four men in a drunken state had attacked the auto, pushed the victim’s boyfriend aside and were assaulting the girl."

The Police Control Room was immediately informed, and two patrol teams, including a Rakshak unit, rushed to the scene within 10 minutes. "As our team arrived, the suspects attempted to flee with the victim in the auto. However, the auto driver removed the ignition keys and escaped," the ACP added.

The suspects fled on their bikes but were chased by the police for 700 metres before being apprehended. Following the rescue, the victim’s family thanked the police for their swift action. Based on her statement and a complaint from her family, cases were registered under the Pocso Act, attempt to rape, attempt to murder, wrongful restraint, voyeurism, kidnapping and outraging modesty.

The accused — Shaik Akbar, Shaik Fareed, Mohammed Mohsin and Ambadas — all cab drivers from Borabanda and Chandanagar — had been drinking after their shifts. Spotting the victim in the autorickshaw, they decided to kidnap and assault her, police sources said.

The suspects were produced in court along with seized mobile phones and two bikes. Police have also detained the autorickshaw driver for investigation, suspecting the driver may have connections to the accused.
