Police to Issue Red Corner Notice on SIB Ex-chief Soon

Hyderabad: TG police will soon issue a red corner notice (RCN) for T. Prabhakar Rao, ex-chief of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), who is wanted in the phone-tapping case, said Director-General of Police Dr Jitender. Talking to the media on Wednesday, the DGP likened the RCN to a non-bailable warrant.

“We have written to Interpol and the CBI, the nodal agency in India, seeking an RCN on Prabhakar Rao. Both organisations are working on it. Coordinating with the foreign law enforcement agencies will take time,” he explained.

Talking about the tussle between BRS MLAs P. Kaushik Reddy and Arekapudi Gandhi, the DGP said that the allegations on the police taking sides were false. “We acted on the circumstances and booked cases based on the CCTV footage,” he explained.

Asked about Maoist movements in the state, the DGP said the thye had shifted their base to Chhattisgarh. During the recent Khammam encounter, they were entering Chhattisgarh from another state and not from Telangana.

On the recent violence in Jainooor mandal of Asifabad district, Dr Jitender clarified that there was no political angle to it. “We took over the situation within 24 hours by deploying 700 police personnel. Even today, we have kept our forces on standby,” he said and added that 38 persons were arrested, and not released on bail.

On the Ganesh immersion procession, the DGP said 1,36,638 idols were immersed in 5,679 immersion points and explained the preventive measures taken by the police to maintain peace.

Responding to a question on the recent incident reported from Manoharabad mandal, where a Dalit man named Chandram and his family were boycotted by the villagers after they refused to play thed dappu, Dr Jitender said that there were allegations on the entire village, and they were being counselled. Chandram completed his master's degree and is working for a private company in Hyderabad, he said.
