Warangal: The families of a sister and brother who had separated several years ago due to differences over a land issue were united on Raksha Bandhan day on Monday, thanks to an initiative taken by the Mills Colony police in Hanamkonda district. Several efforts by the community to resolve the dispute were in vain.

On Monday, the families of Pastham Kotamma and her brother Yedukondalu tried to attack each other and approached the Mills Colony police station to lodge mutual complaints. Sub-inspector Suresh, instead of merely booking cases, counselled them of the consequences, and got Kotamma to tie a rakhi to Yedukondalu in the presence of their family members.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Suresh said, “They were also made to understand the sacred relationship between the sister and brother on the auspicious Raksha Bandhan day. The two families have decided not to fight again,” he added.
