Prep Is On for 38th Hyderabad Sailing Week
Hyderabad: The Yachting Association of India’s 38th Hyderabad Sailing Week is all set to kick off in a grand event at Hussainsagar on Tuesday. Nearly 100 sailors from all across the nation will participate in the national racing event from July 3 to July 6.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, NB Sub Reddy said the races have openings for four categories; three from International Laser Class Association (ICLA) classes with ICLA 4, ICLA 6 and ICLA 7, and a 470 class.
ICLA-4 class is for the youth category, while ICLA-7 is for the men's category and ICLA-6 is open category. “ICLA classes are single-handed races with just a single person in the sailboat, while 470-class sailboats are handled by two participants. Both ICLA 6 and ICLA 7 are Olympic classes, and the 470-class will be organised in the mixed category in the 2024 Paris Olympics”, he said.
Nearly 100 sailors from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya, Haryana and several other states will be participating in the event.
The lap formation will be a trapezoid shape in Hussainsagar, and two sessions will be held each day. Each session shall host races of two classes simultaneously, and each class will participate in 12 races in total.
On Tuesday, the opening ceremony for the sailing week will be conducted at Secunderabad’s Sailing Club. The races will go on from July 3 to July 6, and the prize distribution and closing ceremonies will be organised on July 7.
