Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court directed the state government to protect the Public Gardens and maintain greenery in all respects. The court also told the government that any portion of the property could not be used for construction.

The Division Bench comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao issued the orders by disposing of the petition filed in 2009 by the Morning Walkers’ Association, which complained that the government had prepared proposals to construct a protocol building in the park, which is meant for recreational and aesthetic purposes.

Additional Advocate General Imran Khan submitted to the court that the erstwhile proposal for construction had been withdrawn and assured the court that the Public Gardens would be protected as it is and greenery would be maintained by the Horticulture Department. Recording the undertaking of the Additional Advocate General, the court disposed of the petition.
