Adilabad:Panic struck residents near Khanapur Tank in Khanapur and Bokkalaguda colonies in Adilabad town on Friday after news spread that the civic body would demolish their houses, which were built on the FTL (Full Tank Level) and buffer zone of Khanapur Tank.

On Friday, Adilabad municipality, along with irrigation and revenue officials, conducted a joint survey to identify the number of encroachments in the FTL and buffer zone of Khanapur Tank in these colonies.

The officials marked houses that were constructed in violation of FTL and buffer zone norms, creating panic among local residents who had been living in these houses for a long time.

This action was prompted by complaints made to district collector Rajarshi Shaw regarding encroachments around Khanapur Tank.

Adilabad municipal commissioner Md Qamar Ahmed stated that four teams had been formed to conduct the survey.

Residents, upon learning that their houses were being marked, came out of their homes in alarm as rumours spread that illegal constructions would be demolished and cleared from the tank area.

Encroachments have occurred around Khanapur Tank, as well as in the Kolipura, Ambedkarnagar, Tirpelli, Brahmanwada, Khanapur, and Bokkalaguda colonies.
