Revanth Reddy Unveils Vision for Telangana as Sports Hub
Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his determination to transform Telangana into a hub for international sports, towards which it was essential that every sport discipline should be prioritised in the state’s development agenda.
During a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, the Chief Minister outlined plans for a Young India Sports University in the Fourth City. He said that Hyderabad has hosted international events like Afro-Asian Games, and it was time to make it an ideal venue for the Olympics.
"Our goal is not merely to host global extravaganzas in Hyderabad but to also tap and nurture Olympic medal winners," Reddy said.
He said that the sports university will focus on bringing all sports and training institutions under one roof for a comprehensive development and fostering talent across disciplines.
Reddy stressed that every sport, from archery to wrestling, should receive due attention, with priority given to disciplines where Telangana athletes could excel based on the state’s geographical and physical attributes.
"Training must be of international standards towards which acclaimed trainers will be brought in to ensure that our athletes are competition-ready and prove their mettle in international championships," he added.
"We must streamline our efforts by bringing all sports departments, government-run academies, and training centres into one cohesive structure," he said.
The university will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, with nutrition and training programmes designed to meet international standards. In a bid to nurture young talent, Reddy announced that specialised sports schools would be established in every Lok Sabha constituency.
"These schools will prioritise sports training, and promising athletes will have the opportunity to hone their skills at the sports university," he said.
To prepare for the future, the Chief Minister has called for a comprehensive study on the successes of athletes in the Paris Olympics.
This includes analysing their training methods, government support, and the perseverance that contributed to their victories. This research will help Telangana adopt the best practices from across the world, he said.
"We aim to create a sporting culture that reflects the dynamism of Young India. Telangana will be a brand that represents the strength and skill of our young athletes," he said.
