Shabbir Ali urges people to share credible info on caste census

Nizamabad: Advisor to the state government Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Saturday said the Congress government, for the first time in Telangana, will conduct a caste census. He urged people to give credible information to enumerators for the survey. All welfare schemes and government activities will be taken up based on the caste census, he said.

An awareness meeting on caste census was conducted here on Saturday.

Advisor to the state government on agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Yellareddy MLA Madanmohan Rao, district Congress committee president Kailas Srinivas Rao and other senior leaders were present.

Speaking at the meeting, Shabbir Ali recalled that he, as a Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, raised the need for a backward classes survey. The Speaker deleted my words from the records then, but now it would be realised, he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah released the BC declaration by the Congress party in Kamareddy during the Assembly elections campaign, he said. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, CM A. Revanth Reddy initiated the steps for caste census, he said.

Shabbir Ali called upon people to participate in the caste census from November 6 onwards. Identification of houses was completed and each enumerator will cover 150 houses in the three-day survey, he said. Around one lakh staff will take part in the survey, he said. Based on the caste survey report, local body elections will be conducted soon, he said.
