She teams rescue Nizamabad girl confined in a city hotel for 20 days
Hyderabad: A girl from Nizamabad district, who was locked in a hotel room in the city for 20 days by her ‘Instagram friend’, was rescued by SHE Teams here on Sunday, after she managed to call her parents and inform them of her plight. Police reportedly took the accused into custody and are expected to book a rape case against him.
The parents approached the police on getting information from their daughter. The SHE Teams, which started tracking the accused, got to know of the victim’s whereabouts after she shared her current location via WhatsApp to her parents, said SHE Teams DCP Dara Kavitha.
“The technical teams located the girl in a locked hotel room at Narayanguda. Within a few hours, the victim was reunited with her parents,” DCP Kavitha, who also handles cybercrimes, said.
A criminal case of illegal confinement and blackmailing has been registered against the culprit at the Narayanguda police. Sources said the victim was reportedly sexually abused by the online friend.
In a separate case, SHE Teams received a complaint via WhatsApp from a student of a reputed culinary academy located in the city. She reported that she was subject to harassment by some of her classmates. The victim reported that the group had been teasing her and making inappropriate gestures and vulgar comments against her causing mental distress, she said.
SHE Teams registered a criminal case against the culprits with Panjagutta police. Legal action has been taken against the culprits, the DCP said.
