Hyderabad: Even before the commencement of Dasara Navaratri from October 3, a tiny village – Boyapally in Tandur mandal of Mancherial district is abuzz these days to take part in a lucky draw coupon to win first prize as a sheep while goat as a second prize and a Johnnie Walker full bottle as third prize.

These prizes can be won in the lucky draw only after buying a coupon for just Rs.100!

A day after a group of graduates started the lucky draw coupon in the name of ‘Dasara Damaka’ with sheep, goat, liquor bottles, a roaster and a hen for the first time, a large number of villagers especially families purchased coupons hoping to win a prize in view of the festival.

Of the total 600 coupons, the group sold as many as 530 since the launch of the coupons on Monday, said N Mahesh, one of the group members, who conceptualized the concept.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday, he said the draw of lots would be conducted on October 10 at 4 pm on account of ‘Bhatukamma’ festival which is celebrated on a grand note ahead of Dasara festival.

Apart from sheep, goat and Johnnie Walker full bottle as first three prizes, the group is offering Teachers full bottle as fourth prize, Black Dog full bottle as fifth prize, 100 Pipers full bottle as sixth prize, a roaster as seventh and eighth prize and a hen as ninth and tenth prize, Mahesh explained.

For the first time, the group is celebrating the navaratri festival by putting up a pandal to worship Goddess Kanaka Durga idol and accordingly started lucky draw coups. Mahesh further stated that those who purchased a coupon made cash payments only through PhonePe and Gpay to ensure accountability.

Another group from the village launched one more Rs.100 lucky draw coupon facility with only three prizes – A Royal Enfield bike as first prize, five grams gold as second prize and an AC as third prize and initially only 3,000 coupons were released. Depending upon the response, more coupons would be released, Mahesh said, adding that the draw of lots would be conducted on October 12 at 4 pm.
