Kamareddy: Situation on Wednesday was under control in Kamareddy following protests by parents and student union leaders at Jeevadan school against the alleged sexual assault on a six-year-old girl on Tuesday.

In response to a bandh call given by the student unions, educational institutions in Kamareddy were shut down on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Kamareddy police registered two cases for damaging furniture in Jeevadan school and pelting stones at police resulting in injuries to town CI K. Chandrasekhar Reddy, two SIs and a constable. After verifying the CCTV footage, police identified the attackers. Police also took into custody a few youths for attack on the school and the police personnel.

Speaking to reporters, Kamareddy SP Ch. Sindhu Sharma warned that stringent action will be taken against the attackers. A section of people tried to provoke the incident and circulated fake information on social media, she said. “We will not tolerate anyone spreading false information about the sexual assault case,” the SP said.

On other hand, parents and student union leaders demanded the district administration to initiate action against Jeevadan school principal and vice principal for negligence in duties. They said the school management failed to provide basic amenities to students and ignored the suggestion of parents. However, community elders expressed confidence over police action over sexual assault case on the LKG student.

“We are hopeful that police will punish the culprits. The condition of the victim is stable,” they said. With the cooperation of people, police will resolve the problems, they said.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kamareddy municipal chairperson Gaddam Indupriya said the situation is peaceful. To support the victim, I also joined in the protest, she said. Police should take appropriate action in this case and punish the accused, she added.
