Smuggled gold worth Rs.1.06 cr seized from passenger at RGIA

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Zonal Unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a person at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad for attempting to smuggle gold from Dubai to Hyderabad by hiding it in shoe.

Based on specific intelligence, the DRI officials intercepted a passenger travelling to Hyderabad by flight number EK-528 at the exit area of the international arrival hall at RGIA. Upon questioning and scanning of the passenger’s shoes and backpack, two yellow coloured large metal bar in the shape of a battery were found concealed by him, one in his left shoe and the other one in his backpack.

A yellow coloured metal chain was also recovered. The total weight of the recovered gold is 1390.850 grams valued at Rs.1,06 crore. The gold seized from the passenger who was arrested under the provisions of Customs Act- 1962.
