Hyderabad: Cantonment Vikas Manch(CVM), an NGO formed by Secunderabad cantonment residents, is working to speed up the ongoing merger process of the civil areas into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The CVM has forwarded a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh and defence secretary Giridhar Aramane demanding the merger of civil areas of cantonments with the local municipal bodies.
The memorandum stressed the urgency of the matter and outlined the benefits of merging these areas into the GHMC, emphasising the possible improvements in infrastructure, basic amenities and overall quality of life for 4.5 lakh residents of the cantonment. The NGO commended the Government of India's initiative to merge civil areas of cantonments with the local municipalities.
"The defence secretary and the state government officials have acknowledged our role in advancing this process. We are eagerly waiting for the official announcement regarding the deadline for the excision process," said Sanki Ravinder Babu, general secretary of CVM told Deccan Chronicle.
