Karimnagar: Two Class VIII students at Peddapur Gurukul Residential School were bitten by snakes in Metpally mandal of Jagtial district on Thursday.

The first incident occurred on Wednesday night when Boda Yeshwanth was bitten while resting in the hostel. Upon learning of the bite, the students informed the school staff, who transported him to the government hospital for treatment. The following morning, another student, Omkara Akhil, reported a snake bite and was also admitted to the hospital.

This incident follows a similar tragedy three months ago, when three students from the same school were bitten by snakes. Of those, two succumbed to their injuries, and one recovered.

In response to the recent bites, district collector B. Satya Prasad, accompanied by district medical and health officer Dr K. Pramod Kumar, visited the government hospital to enquire about the students' health. The officials then inspected the hostel, classrooms, and surrounding areas of the school.

Collector Prasad instructed the authorities to take immediate measures to maintain the school grounds, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene to prevent the entry of venomous snakes, insects, and pests. He sought continuous monitoring and vigilance to prioritise the safety of students and eliminate any possibility of negligence.

Additionally, the collector ordered the implementation of awareness programmes for students on how to protect themselves from snake bites and the appropriate first aid procedures in case of such incidents.

Addressing the parents, collector Prasad assured them that the government is giving top priority to the health and safety of every student and is committed to providing the best possible education for all children.

Following the district collector's orders, health officials conducted a medical camp at the school to assess the health conditions of all the students.
