Surge in Dengue Cases Sends Alarm Bells Ringing in Warangal

The district medical and health officer (DM&HO) Dr K. Venkataramana along with officials of GWMC visited Keerthi Nagar and Doctor’s Colony where many dengue cases were reported in Warangal on Wednesday.

WARANGAL: The state-run government hospitals and private hospitals are witnessing a surge in patients suffering from viral and dengue fevers in Warangal district.

Several patients not only from the six districts of united Warangal but also from neighbouring districts are rushing to the largest hospital in northern Telangana region, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) hospital in Hanamkonda district.

As many as 1,000 patients visit the hospital daily complaining about various health complications including dengue. Of which around 40 per cent are suffering from viral fevers while around 250 children suffer from seasonal diseases.

As many as 300 cases of dengue were registered in the MGM hospital. Of which 50 were children who are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Around 12 patients died of dengue till date.

The officials noticed that a large number of dengue and viral cases were reported from Kirti Nagar, Telephone colony, Kothawada, Peddamma Gadda, Labour colony, Shiva Nagar, Doctor’s colony, Rangashaipet, Gorrekunta, Dharmaram, Bhattupalli, Sammaiah Nagar, Sundaraiah Nagar, Deshaipet, Paidipelli, Mamnoor, Deen Dayal Nagar, Sneha Nagar and Kashibugga colonies under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits.

Meanwhile, the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr K. Venkataramana along with officials of GWMC visited Keerthi Nagar and Doctor’s colony from where more people were admitted to the MGM hospital.

He ordered officials to take up precautionary measures to prevent spread of dengue and other fevers which are mainly spread by growth of insects in stagnant waters along with taking up fogging operations in the colonies.

He asked the officials to establish separate medical camps in the colonies from where more cases are reported and create awareness among people about various diseases that are spread seasonally.
