Suryapet: Two Hospitals Seized by Officials for Performing Abortions

 Suryapet: Health department officials on Saturday seized New Kamala Hospital at Huzurnagar for conducting sex determination tests and performing abortions. This followed an allegation that one K. Suhashini from MG thanda of Chivvemla mandal had died after undergoing an aborting at the hospital.

District medical and health officer Dr Kota Chalam led the raid on the New Kamala Hospital, but failed to find staff including doctors. The officials seized the hospital and also Kamala Dental Hospital, which is run from the same building without permission.

Dr Chalam said that they had requested the police for a copy of the FIR on the death of Suhasini and were yet to get it. “We are inquiring about the doctors working in the hospital and whether they have the required qualification,” he said, adding, the license of New Kamala Hospital was cancelled.

He said that stringent action would be taken against the private doctors and RMPs, if they were involved in sex determination tests and foeticide.
