Hyderabad: The state government is set to unveil a revamped diet menu for students in government residential schools and welfare hostels on Saturday. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will make a surprise inspection of a gurukul or welfare hostel located in Hyderabad, Rangareddy or Vikarabad districts.

M MLAs, MLCs, MPs, district collectors, and other officials, will be visiting such institutions to dine with students, inspect the quality of food that is served and assess the living conditions firsthand.

The new menu rollout follows a significant 40 per cent hike in mess charges across all residential schools and welfare hostels, marking the first such increase in eight years.

The event will also serve as a platform to celebrate these changes with parents and public representatives invited as special guests.

In addition to the diet charges revision, Revanth Reddy had on November 1 announced an unprecedented 200 per cent increase in cosmetic charges, the first time in 16 years.

The state government aims to use the occasion to enhance awareness among parents about their children’s dietary needs while encouraging family involvement. Flex banners displaying the new menu will be prominently placed at all gurukul schools and welfare hostels.

The government also intends to highlight its broader initiatives, such as the upcoming Young India integrated residential schools, which promise international education standards, quality nutrition, and robust infrastructure.
