Hyderabad: The Saroornagar police on Saturday arrested seven persons for attacking one Janardhan Naidu, who had asked them to stop drinking as it was very late at night on Friday.

A video clip of incident was widely circulated on social media. While it is alleged that the perpetrators were under the influence of ganja, the police claimed that the accused had consumed alcohol.

The accused were identified as Maddi Shankhu, Gadderaju Vamshi, Choegoni Harish, Bozhi Shaieed Ali Khan, Mohammad Sonu, and Edulakanti Manoj, Mohammad Rehan, both in their teens.

According to Saroornagar circle inspector Vootkuru Saidireddy, the accused, who were allegedly drinking at a private place near Chaitanyapuri Metro Rail station in Netajinagar, were approached by Janardhan’s tenants, asking them to stop drinking as it was already 1 am.

This turned into a brawl, the accused barged into Janardhan Naidu’s house and broke the windows of the house and pelted stones.

“After that, they again sat in the same place and drank. Seeing this, the tenants called Janardhan and there was another brawl between Janardhan and the gang. The gang attacked him with sticks. He was injured and was shifted to a hospital for treatment,” the CI said.

Asked whether a narcotics test of the accused was carried out, the police said, “We have not tested them for narcotics since they don't have a history of narcotic consumption.”
