Hyderabad: BJP Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajendar on Sunday extended support to the Vanjari community which is seeking seeking inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes group. The community is currently is listed as Other Backward Class under `D’ Category in Telangana.
Speaking at a protest organised by the community members at Tarnaka, Rajendar said the community was listed as a nomadic tribe in Maharashtra, which is basically a trade clan and settled in farming, and the same was denied in Telangana.
Rajendar said he had asked the then BRS government to hand over land sites to 78 caste groups near Hitec City in Hyderabad to construct buildings for each of them. However, the Vajara community was given land at Uppal Bagayat.
Asking the Congress government to release funds for the construction of these buildings for which the land was allotted earlier, Rajendar said the development with equal distribution of wealth which was cherished by Dr B.R. Ambedkar was possible only when the government promoted the downtrodden communities.
Thanking the members of Vanjara community for extending support during the Lok Sabha elections, Rajendar said he would strive to fulfil their aspirations.
Stating that the word “impossible” is not found in his dictionary, Rajendar extended support to the Vanjara community and expressed hope that their demand of inclusion in the ST list would be fulfilled.
