Telangana Forms Special Legal Cell to Protect Government Land
HYDERABAD: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday announced the formation of a special legal cell within the office of the principal secretary, revenue, to ensure legal action to protect government land.
Speaking at a meeting at the Secretariat, the minister called for the protection of government land. He pledged to restore the rural revenue system by appointing a revenue officer for each village. This comes after the previous BRS government's abolition of the village revenue officer and village administrative officer systems left rural areas without a revenue framework.
The meeting was attended by principal secretary, revenue, Naveen Mittal, Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee chairman V. Lacchi Reddy, Telangana Civil Services Deputy Collectors Association president K. Chandra Mohan, Telangana Gazetted Officers Association president Eluri Srinivas, and Telangana Tahsildars Association president Ramulu.
Association representatives raised several concerns, including the reinstatement of tahsildars (MROs) who were transferred during the elections, the promotion of MRos, RDOs and deputy collectors, as well as the need for permanent government office buildings for tahsildars and the settlement of vehicle rent arrears. They welcomed called for confirming IAS cadres for deputy collectors who have completed over 13 years of service under the SCS (State Civil Service) quota.
Srinivas Reddy said non-financial issues would be resolved swiftly. He also announced two upcoming meetings: one on September 29 with 900 tahsildars and another on October 6 with 250 deputy collectors and additional collectors to address broader departmental issues.
