Agriculture department officials informed that crop damage across Nalgonda, Siddipet, Khammam and Suryapet districts is being assessed.

They said that further damage to crops will be contained if water does not stagnate in the fields. Farmers are being advised to drain water. If the water is drained out of the field, the damage to crops will be avoided. While paddy can withstand water stagnation to an extent, cotton and maize will start rotting soon.

Meanwhile, in the absence of an insurance scheme, damage to crops could prove disastrous for farmers.
