Hyderabad: The BC welfare department said that the state government was mulling doubling or tripling the number of beneficiaries of overseas Mahatma Jyotiba Phule scholarship. At present, the scholarship was given to 300 students.

Dispelling the fears of students and parents, the department said that the process of selecting beneficiaries was delayed owing to the Lok Sabha elections in March and that the complete list will be released soon.
“Names of those students who have received first instalment last year have been forwarded to the finance department to which they have responded positively for fund release this year,” the department said, adding that the Chief Minister, deputy chief minister and ministers are favourably disposed to granting the scholarships to the maximum number of students.
