Hyderabad:A Telangana High Court bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao on Tuesday heard the batch of petitions and a PIL in relation to action against police officers who were involved in the alleged extra-judicial killing of the four persons accused in the Disha rape and murder case of November 2019.

Vrinda Grover, Supreme Court senior counsel, appearing for the activists urged the court to direct the government to register an FIR against the 10 personnel involved in the alleged encounter at Chatanpally.

She argued that that was required by the law as laid down by the Supreme Court in ‘PUCL v State of Maharashtra (2014)’ and as recommended by the Justice V.S. Sirpurkar Commission of Inquiry. She argued that no matter where the encounter took place, the FIR must be registered immediately.

A single judge bench of the High Court on May 1 had directed the state government to refrain from taking any coercive measures using the report of the Justice Sirpurkar commission, dated January 28, 2022, against police officers involved in the incident.

Vrinda Grover on Tuesday argued that first of all FIR has to be registered by naming the police officers as accused and trial should be conducted. The bench adjourned the hearing to Wednesday.
