HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the state government, the Director-General of Police (DGP) and the Hyderabad police commissioner in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the cordon and search operations being conducted by the police.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao directed the government and authorities to file affidavits in reply to the issues raised in the PIL.

The PIL claimed that the police have been searching the houses at various localities in the Old City without warrants, causing fear and distress among residents, especially women and children.

Further, the PIL also alleged that the vehicle checking at night in the name of cordon and search infringed the rights of the citizens, as they are taking personal identifications Apart from the issue of cordon and search, the PIL objected to the police forcing the shops to shut early in the night.
