Nizamabad: Normal life was thrown out of gear in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts as heavy rains continued to lash these districts on Sunday. Water level in the river Godavari and its tributaries rose in undivided Nizamabad district with a complete breakdown of vehicular traffic in many routes.

With the sinking of an NH-44 approach road near Kamareddy, vehicles moved slowly to avoid accidents. Vehicular traffic was halted between Indalwai and Dharpally main road with police regulating the traffic.

Low-lying areas and slums in Nizamabad municipal corporation limits were inundated with floodwater. Nizamabad-Bodhan road witnessed floodwater at Malapally and Autonagar. However, 1,000 cusecs of water were released into Nizamsagar project main canal.

Nizamabad and Kamareddy district collectors directed officials to take immediate measures to alleviate the sufferings of people during heavy rains. SDRF teams were made available to tackle emergency situations.

A holiday was declared for educational institutions in the district on September 2 due to heavy rains.
