Nalgonda: The Sankranti festival rush led to heavy traffic at toll plazas on National Highway 65, with vehicles piling up at Panthangi and Korlaphad toll plazas from early Saturday morning.
At Panthangi toll plaza near Choutuppal in Yadadri-Bhongir district, traffic was bumper-to-bumper from Abdullapurmet to Kothagudem and Choutuppal. Of the 16 toll gates, 10 were allocated for vehicles heading towards Vijayawada from Hyderabad, while six were designated for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.
Korlaphad toll plaza in Nalgonda district also experienced slow-moving traffic. Out of 12 toll gates, seven were reserved for vehicles heading towards Vijayawada and five for those traveling towards Hyderabad.
Police deployed towing vehicles and ambulances at toll plazas and other strategic points along the highway to ensure smooth traffic flow and address emergencies. Efforts are ongoing to manage the surge in vehicles as people head to their hometowns to celebrate the festival.
