Telangana: Highway Works Start After NGT Clearance
Hyderabad: Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said works for the Karimnagar-Kamareddy-Yellareddy state highway has been started after getting clearance from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The government agreed that the state highway is being converted into a national highway, though the Centre is yet to give approval in principle.
The minister said a proposal for upgrading the state roads to national highways was sent to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on 2 July 2022. The road under the state jurisdiction is spread over an extent of 165 kms.
Earlier, Congress MLA K. Madan Mohan Rao had sought clarity on the issue saying the highway has become prone to accidents.
When the minister attributed the delay in execution to lack of land acquisition by the previous government, BRS MLA Sabita Reddy said Rs 130 crore was spent on the same and alleged officials seem to have misled the minister. Then, former minister for roads and buildings V. Prashanth Reddy intervened and clarified that a detailed project report (DPR) was not given as the alignment was not approved.
