Karimnagar: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) nabbed assistant engineer Vomakaram Narsinga Rao of the irrigation department on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor in Peddapalli district.

Rao, who served under the deputy executive engineer of the irrigation department, reportedly demanded Rs 20,000 from the contractor for clearing official bills. Suspicious of the misconduct, the contractor filed a complaint with ACB officials.

Acting on this complaint, ACB officers set up a sting operation and caught Rao red-handed while he was receiving the bribe at a public location near the irrigation department office. Led by DSP Ramana Murthy, the ACB team escorted the accused to his office.

Following a thorough investigation, the ACB registered a case against Vomakaram Narsinga Rao and presented him before the ACB Court for further legal proceedings.
