Karimnagar: A leopard triggered panic among locals, killing two cows in Gorantla of Gambhiraopet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district. Komirishetty Chandraiah, a farmer, had tied the cows in a temporary shed overnight.

He saw the cows mauled to death on Saturday. After noticing paw prints near the carcasses, the villagers informed the forest department.

The leopard attacked another cow belonging to Cherri Lal of Devuni Thanda village in Chandurthi mandal Friday night and killed it.

Forest officials accompanied by an animal tracker team visited the villages and spotted the footprints of the leopard and alerted people living in surrounding villages of both the mandals.

The officials are not sure whether or not the same leopard was involved in the two attacks on cows. The forest officials ordered people to remove traps and electric fencing that they had set in their fields to protect the crop to ensure that the leopard is not injured if it ventures there.
