Telangana: Nalimela Bhaskar to Receive Praja Kavi Award

Karimnagar: The state government on Sunday selected polyglot, poet, writer and translator Nalimela Bhaskar for the Praja Kavi Kaloji Narayana Rao literary award. The award comprises a cash award of Rs 1,01,116 and a memento.

The award will be presented on Monday to mark the birth anniversary of the late Kaloji Narayana Rao, Padma Vibhushan awardee, freedom fighter and statehood activist. His birth anniversary on September 9 is celebrated as Telangana Language Day.

Bhaskar was born in Narayanpur of Yellareddypet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district on April 1, 1953. He was conferred Central Sahitya Academy award for translating the Malayalam novel ‘Smaraka Sashigal’ written by Punathil Kunjabdulla as ‘Smaraka Shilalu’ in Telugu in 2013. He has received awards at national and state levels for his literary work.
