Hyderabad: Patnam Shruti, the wife of former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, has filed a contempt petition, seeking a direction to punish four police officials, who allegedly arrested her husband illegally, without following the guidelines framed by the Supreme Court in its judgment in the D.K. Basu vs. State of West Bengal.

The four police officials named in the petition include IPS officer V. Satyanarayana, Vikarabad SP K. Narayan Reddy, Bomraspet inspector of police Sridhar Reddy, and Bomraspet sub-inspector Md Abdul Rauf.

In its judgment, the Supreme Court had clearly laid down the guidelines to be followed by the police while arresting an accused. These guidelines include — the police personnel carrying out arrest should wear uniform, an arrest memo should be attested by the family members of the accused, information of arrest should be informed to a friend, relative at the place of arrest, arrested person must be made aware of all his rights, an entry must be made in the dairy at the place of arrest, and arrested person must be permitted to meet his lawyer.

The petitioner contended that none of the guidelines framed by the Supreme Court were followed by the police, and sought a direction to punish all the police officers, who were responsible for the arrest of her husband.
