Telangana police seek CBI's help to issue 'Red Corner' against Prabhakar

Hyderabad: The Telangana police has taken the help of the CBI, which is the nodal agency to issue `Red Corner` notice to bring back illegal phone tapping case prime accused and former SIB chief T. Prabhakar Rao.

Recently the state police has written a letter to CBI along with the passport and visa particulars reports and details of prime accused in the phone tapping case, who is stated to be in Texas, a senior police official confirmed Deccan Chronicle.

It is a common practice for every state police to seek the CBI, which is authorised to issue the Red Corner notice against wanted criminals in high-profile cases. However, state police’s S.M. Vijay Kumar will continue to head the investigation.

“Our police have already in written a letter requesting the CBI to take part in the execution of a red corner notice on Prabhakar Rao whereas we will continue with the further investigation in phone tapping,” a senior official said.

The accused Prabhaker, who according to top police sources, is presently in Texas and have been postponing his arrival despite the Telangana G police trying to coordinate with him through mail and his personal number that has also been switched off.

Three months back, Prabhakar Rao had called one of the investigation officers and said that he would come back to India by June 26. However, he has been buying time, leaving no other option for police than issuing a red corner notice through CBI. The central agency has authority to inform the Intrapol and US immigration officials located in Texas, police sources disclosed.

The CBI is likely to issue a `Red Corner` notice against Prabhakar Rao, following which the notice will be sent through the Indian Embassy in Texas to US immigration authorities. After the Red Corner notice was issued, the Interpol will seek the help of local agencies to arrest Prabhakar Rao, police sources disclosed.

Prabhakar Rao has 10 years multiple US visa and has got six months permission by the port US immigration officials, which will end by the first week of July. When the visa permit ends, he should either return to India or visit other country before the valid date stamped by port of entry

However, with the issue of Red Corner notice, he will not be allowed to extend his visit and could be deported as he had bought a two-way ticket when he left India, police sources said.

On the other hand, the family members of accused G. Radha Kishan Rao, N. Bhunja Rao, D. Praneeth Rao and others are also exerting pressure on Prabhakar Rao’s family to convince him to return.
