Telangana: Rivers in Spate, Reservoirs Full

Nizamabad: The highest outflow of 3.32 lakh cusecs of water was released from Sriramsagar project to the downstream of river Godavari on Tuesday.

Heavy inflows continued from catchment areas of river Godavari and tributary Manjeera in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. By lifting 41 gates of the dam and Kakatiya and Indiramma flood flow canals, SRSP officials released water to downstream.

For 80.5 tmc of gross storage capacity, the project reached 69.885 tmc on Tuesday night. Monitoring the flood situation, officials have gradually decreased outflows at 2.40 lakh cusecs.

Water level in Sriramsagar project suddenly increased due to incessant rains for last three days. Due to flash floods, medium and minor irrigation projects received copious inflows. Gates of Pocharam and Alisagar reservoirs were opened and water released to command areas.

Meanwhile, rains continued in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts on Tuesday. The district and mandal level officials are monitoring rain related problems in their respective areas. Nizamabad and Kamareddy district collectors Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu and Ashish Sangwan reviewed the flood situation and necessary rescue operations.
